Coming soon! 2nd round of National and Sectoral CDM Capacity Building Workshops in Trinidad and Tobago

6 September 2011

Upcoming is the second round of the Capacity Building for the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) National and Sectoral Workshops in Trinidad and Tobago, to be held in October 2011.

The implementation strategy for the CDM Capacity Building Sub-component of the Programme to enhance capacities for Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) in African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Countries is focused on the transfer of CDM knowledge and experience from the UNEP Risoe Centre (URC), its implementation partners and local consultancy firms to national CDM stakeholders. This is being done through the provision of institutional and technical backstopping to relevant national and regional public and private institutions.

Spearheaded by the Ministry of Housing and the Environment through its Multilateral Environmental Agreements Unit (MEAU) in collaboration with the URC, the second National Workshop is to be held on October 28th, 2011 preceded by the second Sectoral Workshop on October 27th, 2011.

This one-day National Workshop is intended to continue the training and assistance for CDM project developers which began with the first round in April 2011. The topics to be covered include:

  • Project Idea Note (PIN) preparation
  • Project Design Document (PDD) preparation
  • Common pitfalls in PDD development
  • Baseline methodologies
  • Examples of baseline methodologies relevant to national circumstances
  • CDM project financing

The Sectoral Workshop which will be targeting the energy industry as a local high-potential CDM sector, would be similar, although smaller and more focused on feasible CDM project ideas under favourable national circumstances. This workshop will take place before the National Workshop in order to identify the key priorities in this high-potential sector.
